About Matthew Spinner

Composer, arranger and singer

My Story

Matthew’s musical story began in a chapel in South Wales where his grandfather was organist. The treat of being allowed to play on (and inside!) such a powerful instrument could not fail to inspire a young boy.

He sang as a treble in his local church choir before learning violin, piano and (eventually) pipe organ, performing concerts and playing for church services.

While the instruments fell away over the years, Matthew has never stopped singing…

Singing

Over the years, Matthew has been a member of a cappella one-to-a-part groups, choral societies and internationally award-winning chamber choirs and has performed solos in some of Britain’s largest concert halls, including Cadogan Hall, Birmingham Symphony Hall and Glasgow Royal Concert Hall.

His experience ranges from close harmony and vocal percussion (aka beatboxing), to psalms and anthems in cathedrals such as Westminster Abbey, Westminster Cathedral, Durham, Ely, St Davids, St Albans and Norwich.

A need for some specific repertoire for a series of concerts prompted Matthew to start arranging works for SATB choirs, and this has since grown to original compositions, and works for chamber ensembles and solo instruments. Many of these have been performed worldwide.
